Artist Statement: Performance has been a natural method of exploration for Hay since she was raised in theatre. The ability to assume the identity of other characters caused her to question what performing aspects of herself and her experiences would look like, as well as what parts of her personality are performance. These ideas present themselves with a playful yet disturbing wit, lying within the abject through photography, film and sculpting. The emotions of disgust and discomfort are feelings she strives to evoke within people, innocently tied in a delicate bow.
