Tryst Red
In sharing her most intimate memories and thoughts, Tryst has found her audience can recognize moments in her work that reflect their own impressions, losses, and aspirations.
Tryst Red is an installation and lens-based artist and educator who investigates our ability to relate and find connections in the experiences of others. Her work emphasizes collaboration, whether it be social practice — focusing on the connection between the artist and the subject, or immersive installation, encouraging the audience to sit with feelings of familiarity. The use of the mirror exposes shared sensations and the physical and mental connections between a body and memory. Projection allows Tryst to explore the idea of home and reminiscence prompted by a combination of specific sounds and imagery.
Tryst has exhibited her work in multiple group shows, including The Muskegon Museum of Art, Detroit Artist Market, and the Cranbrook Art Museum. Her solo show "Skin & Scales, 2021" was held at Tom Gibbs Studio in Ferndale, MI. In May 2023, Tryst received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Currently, Tryst is a photography professor at Wayne State University, Oakland University, and Lawrence Tech. She also works as a freelance artist, specializing in portraiture, commercial, and architectural photography.
